A small, personal food blog about eating well in central Seoul — written for travelers who don’t read Korean.
Hi, and welcome. My name is behind this site, but my day job is simple: I work on a hotel facilities team in central Seoul. I’m the person who keeps the lights, water, and air running in the background. That work takes me all over the Myeongdong, City Hall, and Namdaemun neighborhoods every single day — and it means I eat where the local workers eat, not where the tour buses stop.
The Neighborhood Table is my personal blog. It is not owned by, operated by, or speaking for any hotel or company. It’s just one person writing down the small, honest restaurants I actually walk into between shifts.
What you’ll find here
Every post follows the same simple promise: big photos, short writing, and the practical stuff a visitor actually needs.
- Real meals. I only describe food I’ve actually eaten. If I didn’t taste a dish, I tell you what it is — I don’t invent a flavor for it.
- A full menu translation. Korean menus, line by line, with romanization and a one-line note so you can order with confidence.
- The details foreigners worry about. A Naver Map link, whether solo dining works, whether they take cards, and how to order step by step.
- Nearby hotels. Listed as plain information so you can judge how close a place is to where you’re staying.
Why I write it
Most of these places have no English sign, no English menu, and no reviews a traveler can read. They’re wonderful, and they’re invisible to visitors. I wanted to fix that for the few blocks I know best. If this blog helps one hungry traveler skip the tourist trap and sit down at a real neighborhood table, it’s done its job.
